Goals vs Process Thinking

The mistake many triathletes make is that they commit to a goal; E.g. I want to finish an Ironman, hit a PB over the 70.3 distance or qualify for Hawaii, but then don’t take the step of putting in place a process to achieve it.

This is the secret power of a coach. A coach takes your goal and creates a process to allow you to achieve it (and equally important guides you through the process). This process comes in the form of a plan. A plan that outlines what training sets or tasks you need to do each and every day. But the plan is more than a plan, it’s a commitment. It’s a commitment and a statement. It’s a commitment to yourself and your coach. This commitment states that you want to improve and you are prepared to put the time and effort aside to do that.

You are now accountable to training 3, 4, 5 or more times per week. If you focus on the process the goal will be achieved.

Enjoy the adventure.

Embrace the challenge.

Always have fun!
